Normally, gpg2 does a one time migration of keyrings from v1 format to
v2 format, and also most recent gpg2 no longer reads/loads private keys
directly and only via gnupg-agent.
Also, if one ever run gpg2 on a gpg1 directory, the migration of keys
happened and if one adds any new private keys using gpg1 they will never
make it into the gpg2 format.
Normally gnupg-agent is started as a user-session systemd unit gpg-
agent.socket / gpg-agent.service. But it could be something else on your
system.
To troubleshoot this further, what is the output of:
echo $GPG_AGENT_INFO
gpg1 --list-secret-keys
** Changed in: gnupg2 (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
gpg in focal doesn't find my private keys
Status in gnupg2 package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I recently upgraded to focal, and gpg can no longer find my secret
keys:
~$ gpg --list-secret-keys
~$
attached is the output of 'strace -e openat, access' for the above
command, which I found puzzling and might be a clue if one is needed.
Please do reach out if you need more info.
Thank you.
