Title:
  Excuting 'grub-install /dev/nvme' failed

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi all,
Recently I use nvme ssd install ubuntu os (ubuntu_14.04.3_desktop_i386.iso) at sony latop met a very strange phenomenon.
sony VAIO bios ver: R1041V7, legacy mode.
I use two way install os.
  first way:
record the ubuntu image to DVD, use usb cd-rom install the os on nvme ssd, can install success and boot success.
  second way:
record the ubuntu image to USB, use USB install the os on nvme ssd, met "Executing 'grub-install /dev/nvme' failed" issue.

from the install log, I find the first way, can install grub success
on /dev/nvme0n1, but use the second way, grub-install will install to
  /dev/nvme, so it will failed.

  why will appear this phenomenon?
