I did not have a particular solution in mind.

It's just that if you deliver a tool, which shouts "don't use me, I'm
bad, use X instead!", it would be consequent and meet expectations to
deliver tool X as well.

If I read such a warning and need to fix it manually by self-compiling
external sources, it leaves a somewhat broken impression.

Title:
  missing git filter-repo

Status in git package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
when using git filter-branch, it prints a strong warning:

WARNING: git-filter-branch has a glut of gotchas generating mangled history
rewrites. Hit Ctrl-C before proceeding to abort, then use an
alternative filtering tool such as 'git filter-repo'
           (https://github.com/newren/git-filter-repo/) instead. See the
filter-branch manual page for more details; to squelch this warning,
           set FILTER_BRANCH_SQUELCH_WARNING=1.

but Ubuntu does not come wit filter-repo .
