I figured out the problem, bug can be closed.
Desktop environment was still installed, removed it with
apt-get autoremove --purge $( dpkg-query -l *xubuntu* | grep ii | tr -s
" " | cut -d" " -f2; dpkg-query -l *xfce* | grep 'ii' | tr -s " " | cut
-d" " -f2 )
This fixed my issue as the upgrader no longer tried to install the
package colord.
Sorry for the inconvenience. :slight_smile:

Title:
Upgrade fails due to broken pagacke colord, package is not installed
in the first place
Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I try to run do-release-upgrade -d on an Ubuntu 18.04 which fails due
to broken packages.
According to main.log, the issue is colord. My issue is the lack of
said package as I have purged it via 'apt purge colord'.
Yet the issue persist and shows up again after trying to push from
18.04 to 20.04.
