  computer randomly completely freezes

Bug description:
  This happens randomly and unexpectedly. The mouse stops moving, the
  TTY cannot be accessed, and all I can do to stop it is REISUB. When
  the freeze occurred just now, all I was doing was opening the menu and
  clicked on "preferences".
