  unable to select operating system at startup

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  when starting up a computer with kubuntu on it, when you would
  normally get to the OS select screen, instead I see a small number in
  the upper right counting down, and pressing up or down arrows to try
  to select an OS does nothing.
