Title:
Crash reporter itself crashes and/or fails to show any information
about the generated bug report
Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
When some system program crashes (which is pretty often) (e.g. #1162761), a popup appears saying a crash report will be sent. However, either of these happen:
- half of the time the crash reporter itself crashes: another window appears saying that the crash reporter has crashed
- the other half of the times, no clue is given about the status of the report. I would expect a browser window to open with the generated bug report in Launchpad, as apport does. Or a confirmation message, and information about how to access the generated bug report (if it is publicly accessible somewhere; if it isn't then it should be). Or, if the report fails to be sent, then an error message must be shown AND the user must be pointed to where the crash information has been stored, so that I can send it manually or attach it to a manually generated bug report.
Please don't underestimate the importance of this bug (as you usually
do with critical bugs). This prevents the most critical bugs from
being reported, and hence fixed.
