Title:
GRUB not updated when upgrading a VMWare Fusion virtual machine

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

When upgrading Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, GRUB is not updated in boot
sector. This causes GRUB to drop to shell in boot.

Using Super GRUB ISO to boot works as a rescue. Running install-grub
/dev/sda cures the problem. (It seems that GRUB configuration files
use 1.99-only commands that 1.98 does not understand, so it goes to
  shell.)

This happens in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, as long it is a
virtual machine. In a real partition of e.g. my MacBook, the upgrade
  went normally.
