  grub-probe can't find BIOS RAID disk

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  delance suggested I file bug report on this, and direct it to Collin
  Watson. I will be happy to help debug this issue, but I need some
  instructions on how to do so.

  I have a server system with 2 Xeon 5520 CPU's configured with BIOS /
  fake RAID. The Live CD for 10.10 AMD64 install fails when installing
  grub. I have been able to get the system to install using the
  alternate 10.10 AMD64 installation and skipping the grub installation.
  Using the Open SUSE boot loader, I can get it to boot into ubuntu
  10.10 (there is a slight issue with this, but I'm trying to avoid too
  much detail for more information you can follow the forum post
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1608366&page=6 ).

  With that as a background, and the realization that not many people
  have comparable hardware, I'd like to debug why the grub-install
  fails, or more specifically why grub-probe is failing. After setting
  the -x option in the grub-install script I get the following failure:

  I'm willing to debug the issue, but I have not been able to get "make
  check" to succeed, and I am not sure which options I should give
  configure to get the right build. Also would you recommend that I
  start with the latest / Natty source, or use the 10.10 version?
