Title:
Dual boot screen not visible
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Resolution entry in /etc/default/grub was commented out. Don't know
why this was the case but it might be something you folks should check
out.
Originally, I just wanted to upgrade my 10.04 LTS installation to
12.04, but couln't, even though it was offered when I used the Live
CD. Just gave me a screen with the default background but no launcher
or anything else.
I didn't know how to recover, so I used Partition Magic to wipe out
the Ubuntu partition on the drive and then plugged in the Live CD and
did a fresh install. Same result - a screen with the default
background but no launcher or anything else. So I wiped out the
partition again and reinstalled 10.04 LTS from its Live CD and just
installed every upgrade until I got to 12.04. Took two days to do as I
had time for it.
Along the way I somehow lost the dual boot screen - possibly when you
folks changed to GRUB2? Anyway, editing /etc/default/grub to remove
the # and adding a resolution I wanted corrected the problem and
everything works fine for both OSs now
