I have the same issue on Lenovo T540p and the latest BIOS update. It has no dual graphics, only Intel.
Instead of the GRUB boot menu I only see a black screen with big "Lenovo" logotype. After a while, Ubuntu is started automatically, as it is the first entry in the boot menu.
However, the boot menu is functional with the up/down keys + Enter.

Starting the PC from an external drive with Ubuntu life media or
MultiSystem USB drive, it's GRUB boot menu is visible as usual.
