[Bug 1898820] Re: Hello, When I was in the process of installing the latest version of ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS , the process crashed. I restarted my system and then when I booted Ubuntu, it went fine. I was also able to install all updates and upgrades, but when I typed ''apt update" , it showed ''Reading package lists... Done E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied) E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/ W: Problem unlinking the file /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin - RemoveCaches (13: Permission denied) W: Problem unlinking the file /var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin - RemoveCaches (13: Permission denied)'' . How can I give permission to this directory?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

FYI: You need elevated privileges to run package tools, so the command
needed to update your software lists is

`sudo apt update`

and to install upgraded packages

`sudo apt upgrade`

(or `sudo apt full-upgrade` to install all packages)

The `sudo` elevates your privileges.

I'm marking this as 'incomplete' as I don't see any problem, if you
believe I'm in error, please leave a message explaining why, and you can
change the status to "New".

** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
