[Bug 1924752] [NEW] mac fails to boot after hirsute release upgrade

Public bug reported:

After today trying `do-release-upgrade -d` on an iMac running Kubuntu
20.10, the system now fails to boot, staying at the initial Mac white
screen.

(Trying to manually chroot/update-grub or using Boot-Repair does not
solve the problem.)
