Hello Dave, or anyone else affected,

Accepted rpi-eeprom into groovy-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rpi-
eeprom/11.3-1ubuntu1~20.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
groovy to verification-done-groovy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-groovy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

This package is part of an HWE update for the Raspberry Pi, including
  new EEPROM binaries.

For groovy, a new upstream release is available which enables a new
boot mode on the CM4 (XHCI), and incorporates the experimental
"tryboot" facility for A/B booting along with multiple other fixes and
  improvements.

For focal this is basically a completely new package. There was an old
rpi-eeprom upload in focal-proposed but it was broken due to some
missing/undeclared dependencies. Now everything should be correct.
Please note that the focal rpi-eeprom also requires the raspberrypi-
userland package to be released, as it's a dependency that is also a
completely new package for this series (but it's in focal-proposed
  right now).

  [Test Case]

Install package on a Raspberry Pi and confirm that the device still
works and updates have been applied as needed.

  [Where problems could occur]

For focal this is a completely new package, so as long as it boots -
all is good. For groovy generally a boot test should be sufficient. We
can't think of anything else potentially regressing.

  [Original Description]

A new upstream release is available which enables a new boot mode on
the CM4 (XHCI), and incorporates the experimental "tryboot" facility
  for A/B booting.

A build for hirsute is available from the following PPA:
