Booted the current focal daily (what will become 20.04.3) on
- motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)
Stop watch started at GRUB screen when I pressed ENTER for Start Lubuntu
~50 secs the plymouth screen was shown & it was validating media (showing % progress; this actually started in the 44-46 sec mark I suspect, I'm tired & had zoned out)
3 mins 08 secs and media has passed validation
3 mins 32 secs and black screen with Xorg mouse pointer drawn
3 mins 45 secs & Lubuntu/LXQt desktop is stable
So comparison (current focal vs impish dailies)
Focal daily Impish daily
plymouth ~46 sec 7 mins 20 secs
scan media start ~50 sec
scan media pass 3 min 08 sec
black screen & mouse-pointer 3 min 32 sec ~8 mins 00 secs
full LXQt running 3 min 45 sec 8 mins 33 secs
If the boot needs to be this slow - some messages on screen are needed !
** Description changed:
- Lubuntu impish daily (QA-test) live boot on
+ Lubuntu impish daily (QA-test) live boot on
- motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)
At computerbank (CBV Victoria) we timed boots of Ubuntu installs and if
they didn't meet a minimum requirement, the 'build' was failed meaning
it had to be fixed, or box was recycled. (this is a live boot and not
install boot, but I'm using this as example of issue)
This box was fine until somewhere during the hirsute cycle, when boot
times suddenly booting took >8 minutes from a thumb-drive.
The ISO was written today with MKUSB (dd/clone), however the result during prior tests during the hirsute cycle is the same using
- mkusb (dd/clone write)
- dd
- gnome-disks (restore disk image)
Note: this is based on prior testing during hirsute, today's was just using mkusb (dd/clone)
** Expected result
A live boot should NOT take >8 mins
-
** Actual results
stopwatch started when I pressed <ENTER> for "Start Lubuntu" at grub
menu
* 7 mins 20 secs for blue Plymouth screen to appear
* ~8 mins 0 secs for mouse pointer to show on black background (maybe 7 mins 57 secs b/c I'd dazed out)
* 8 mins 33 secs for background & Lubuntu/LXQt display to show
It's not the box is suddenly slow.. something changed during hirsute
- that caused the live session to boot slowly... (I need to time the
- focal daily for comparison!)
+ that caused the live session to boot slowly...

+ See comment #2 for results of booting the current focal daily (ie. what
