Title:
in some cases will erroneously detect that /boot is on lvm and so
  install lilo

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: debian-installer

  Hi,

I completed an installation with ext3 boot and root on xfs on lvm,
and lilo was installed for me.

This was probably caused the fact that I had been going through a
previous lvm installation when my host machine crashed. This meant
that when I started the next installation I was offered the option to
revive the volume groups from the previous installation.

I accepted this and then deleted all the partitions and started again.

This seems like a bug that would not hit many users, and the installation
  still succeeded.

  Thanks,

  James
