Public bug reported:
The issue was reported[1] as a regression for git >= 2.35, because the
workaround implemented for it broke with that release, but the issue is
present in pcre < 10.36 (hence affecting the package in Ubuntu 20.04)
and has been fixed by e0c6029[2].
Backporting the fix to the affected package (10.34-7) has been confirmed
to solve the problem.
