Addendum: After a second try, the fan was off and the few lines of
output did not appear. The LEDs were still on and the display blank and
unlit.

Title:
laptop won't turn off properly after upgrade to 22.04
Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
If I click shutdown it will enter a "limbo" state, where some LEDs are
on but it won't react to anything except holding power for a forced
shutdown. It will drain the batteries this way. Quite annoying.
