The git repository is automatically generated from archive imports. I'm
not sure there's a manual one but the changes are small enough that
regular rebasing is not an issue.

Usually I'd use merges.ubuntu.com to merge a new upstream version if I
touched it, I don't use that git repository.

Title:
Clean up the mess in the commit history

Status in dpkg package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Currently the commit history is complete mess. There are no commits
for changes, instead the commits are just applying and deapplying
changes in bulk, so there is nothing to be upstreamed. It should be
  fixed.
