Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm using
- a Lubuntu machine with an encrypted root partition with that special method of the Lubuntu installer, where there is no unencrypted boot partition, but grub itself decrypts the device

- due to some medical issues with the wrists because of spending too
much time at the computer split/ergonomical keyboards, mostly Microsoft
Natural Keyboards. No problem with older models.

But since replacing an older one with the

045e:082c Microsoft Corp. Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard

I cannot boot, because with this keyboard I cannot enter the boot
password. Grub seemed to ignore this, and I had to use a second (cheap,
regular) keyboard just to enter the password.

This worked for some time with a second keyboard just for the boot
password, but recently I have to unplug the microsoft keyboard in order
to have the cheap one working.

On a different machine with Xubuntu (thus the common way to boot the kernel into an unencrypted boot partition and then pivot the root into the encrypted) and a keyboard of the same kind, there is no problem.

So grub is having a problem with this keyboard.
