As the documentation says, the file name must end in .sources

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Won't Fix

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)
       Status: Won't Fix => Invalid

Title:
  apt does not work with given convig files in new format

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  assume /etc/apt/sources.list.d/somerepo.list:

  Types: deb
  URIs: https://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb/
  Suites: stable
  Components: main
  Architectures: amd64
  Signed-By: /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/33EAAB8E.gpg /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/4218647E.gpg

  Then 'apt update' will produce:

  # apt update
  E: Type 'Types:' is not known on line 4 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.list
  E: The list of sources could not be read.

  A new apt version is available. Would be nice to upgrade. At the
  moment "man sources.list" does describe a file format not accepted by
  apt in sources.list-files.
