The Ubuntu version is likely to encounter this issue as well, so I hope
it can be addressed.

While it's true that mixed mode is no longer supported, there are indeed
scenarios where this is needed. Could we add support for this in the
Ubuntu grub2 code?

Bug description:
I am using Shim 15.8 in combination with GRUB2.12. One of the GRUB
menu items, chainloader /efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi, fails to
boot, while it works correctly with GRUB2.06. Below is a screenshot of
the error.
