Title:
  update-initramfs / mkinitramfs fails to add ANY kernel modules

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  The error occured which the update last Saturday or Sunday.

  (Re-)Building an initrd  results in unusable initrds

  Checking the directory shows that there is not a single module included in the archive.
  The initrd itself is much smaller as a first visual indication.

  Booting a kernel with such an initrd strands the machine in the initrd busybox
  with almost no available devices (due to the missing kernel modules)
