Public bug reported:

update-notifier is oversized/broken on Mate Desktop.

When updates require a restart, an ayatana indicator taking all free
space on the panel appears with a blue background (seems like sliver of
a UN organization logo).

This behavior started on Ubuntu-Mate 23.10 and still not resolved on
24.04 as of Feb 14th 2024.
