Public bug reported:
when selecting a package, and "expanding" Technical description, tab "Changes", initially appears:
"Downloading list of changes...
((Cancel button))"
currently, this seems to take forever for me. What I really want to know
is which version is installed, and which version is due to be installed.
This is already known locally, however, it is only displayed as the
first three lines after downloading the change log. Then is looks like:
"Changes for <PACKAGENAME>:
Installed version: <INSTVER>
Available version: <NEWVER>"
followed by a bold heading per version, and the notes for each in-
between version.
(in this case, the specific situation is
Changes for linux-headers-generic versions:
Installed version: 5.4.0.170.168
Available version: 5.4.0.173.171
but it seems that there is no change log entry for 5.4.0.170.168 so I
get a long list with Version 5.4.0.171.169: followed by Version
5.4.0.169.167: all the way down to Version 3.18.0.1.1: - maybe this is
why it takes so long?)
My wish is that these three lines, which are already known, are displayed immediately, so that I need not wait for the change log to be downloaded.
Or feel free to tell me, by all means, if I can find the versions already via some other way. "Description" does not contain it (as expected) and I see no widget which may help me find this information, within the application 8I am aware, there are apt commend line tools, but Software Updater should make it unnecessary for me to use them to find out simple information like this.
I run 20.04LTS and the update-manager version installed is 1:20.04.10.18
** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
