Ubuntu Studio lead here. We do not support the realtime kernel for a
number of reasons, the biggest of which is that it requires an Ubuntu
Pro subscription, which is ambiguous if it even applies to Ubuntu
Studio. Therefore, I'm marking this as "Won't Fix" simply because it's
outside the scope of the project.

Furthermore, the realtime kernel for Ubuntu is meant for embedded
applications, not for desktop use which is your use case. Therefore,
you're using it in an unsupported fashion anyhow.

A realtime kernel is not the silver bullet you think it is, and what
you're experiencing is likely a placebo effect.

Additionally, the realtime kernel is not available outside of LTS
releases (Ubuntu Pro only applies to LTS). Ubuntu Studio makes non-LTS
releases.

Title:
Ubuntu Studio should prefer realtime kernel

Status in os-prober package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Now that Ubuntu has released a realtime kernel, I suggest that Ubuntu
  Studio's boot preference should be:

  1. realtime
  2. lowlatency
  3. default

I've been running the realtime kernel for a week, haven't had any
problems with it, and am seeing noticeably fewer xruns in Ardour.
