Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

Bug description:
  Thus laptop frequently won't wake from sleep.

  Sometime you can force shutdown with the power button and re-boot and
  all is well.

  Other times the screen remains blank on re-boot, so you have to remove
  the battery for a few seconds. It then seems to boot normally.
