Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal) reached end-of-life on May 16, 2014.

latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still

Bug description:
  Running a Quantal AC100 image:

  bladernr at mynock:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release 
  DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
  DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.10
  DISTRIB_CODENAME=quantal
  DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.10"

  I tried updating the system via apt-get dist-upgrade and the
  initramfs-tools package fails to properly upgrade:

  Setting up initramfs-tools (0.103ubuntu0.2) ...
  update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
  Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
  update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.1.10-6-ac100
