Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.

latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still

Bug description:
  nvidia-current blacklists nouveau as it prevent the loading of the
  nvidia driver

  still, update-initramfs includes nouveau and thereby prevents the
  nvidia driver from loading, breaking graphic login in the process
