Title:
Upgrading Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS to version 24.04 LTS failed.
Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
The upgrade died before completing. I have no DNS (no resolved).
Every network access gives "Temporary failure in name resolution." I
have tried suggestions from this forum, but most require an "apt
install" that further need to access us.archive.ubuntu.com (or
similar), which of course fails. I have just one (wireless) network
connection on the machine. Will it be necessary to download all of
Ubuntu onto a local thumb drive?
The network card seems to be working. ifconfig gives "wlp2s0: ...
inet 192.168.1.195 ..." mpcli also show s connectivity to my network
as wlp2s0. In case this was the issue, I have bought a USB wifi
dongle, but I was not able to build (make) the driver because of the
lack of network access.
There is no resolved.conf in /etc/systemd/. "sudo systemctl start
resolved.service" resulted in "Failed to start resolved.service: Unit
resolved.service not found." I also tried a few other blind alleys,
all of which gave a similar impasse.
This is the third machine I have tried to upgrade. The first stopped
and had to be repaired three or more times, but is now usable. The
second still has issues with the gnome displays. All in all, I'm not
very happy although still patient.
Any guidance appreciated. Btw, I used to have more relevant
expertise, but that was for the first machine which initially ran
12.04 or 14.04. I have not kept current.
Thanks, Gareth.
