Public bug reported:

### English Summary of the Issue:

During an attempt to upgrade an Ubuntu system from version 22.04 to
24.04 using the `do-release-upgrade` command, the process failed due to
unresolved package conflicts or issues related to third-party software
repositories (PPAs).

#### Steps that were taken:
1. **Initial Command:**
   The upgrade process was initiated manually using:
   ```bash
      sudo do-release-upgrade
   ```

2. **SSH Warning:**
   The system detected that the session was running over SSH, warning about potential risks and offering to start an additional SSH service on port 1022 for recovery in case of failure.

3. **Download and Preparation:**
   The upgrade tool downloaded the required packages and began verifying the system’s package management and installed software.

4. **Error Encounter:**
   During the upgrade process, an issue was encountered:
   - The system could not calculate the available updates and reported an *unresolvable problem* during the upgrade calculation phase.
   - The error message indicated that this was likely caused by *non-official software packages* installed from third-party repositories (PPAs).
   - The suggestion was to use `ppa-purge` to remove these external packages and retry the upgrade process.

5. **Automatic Rollback:**
   After detecting the issue, the upgrade tool restored the system to its previous state and aborted the upgrade process.

6. **Bug Report Initiated:**
   To address this issue, a bug report was filed using the following command:
   ```bash
      ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core
   ```

The logs for this failed upgrade can be found in the `/var/log/dist-
upgrade/` directory, specifically in the `main.log` and `apt.log` files.
These logs provide further details on the issue, including which
packages or repositories caused the conflict.

### Next Steps:
- Investigate the conflicting third-party repositories or packages.
- Remove or disable them using tools like `ppa-purge`.
- Retry the upgrade after resolving the package issues.

help with log analysis?
