I actually didn't expect a very different answer; after my previous
experiences in the last time. "Invalid", "It's a feature", and "the
problem is located between chair and monitor".

Nevertheless, I should add that that same machine(s) never had this problem with W8, later W10, and in the same configuration: double boot with Kubuntu 18.04, 20.04, 22.04.
And now I had to do the deletion/reboot combination in duplicate, twice, including 3 times the reset in the firmware and twice physically with a clip within a fortnight. And always only in connection with 24.04.

Seen in connection with the other UEFI problems reported, like no
poweron and non-functional poweroff resp. shutdown, grub problems, it
comes across as just too simple to state "we're doing okay; the problems
are elsewhere", and setting reports to "Invalid".

Title:
"The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
After about the fourth boot of a freshly installed 24.04, the machine, a Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 2, didn't boot yet again, but came back with this message:
"Error: The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"
"Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup".

I never had this before, on either of my 3 Helix 2 thinkpads, over the last 5+ years, starting with 18.04. This isn't the first time with 24.04, on this machine.
Since it also refuses to show grub, doesn't reboot; neither the installation media nor the installed system (#2085732, #2078572, #1898022 and others), I guess that the core problem doesn't lie with grub or systemd, but with the handling of UEFI, at least with this type of machine. The 'BIOS' is updated to the most recent version (2.16).
