This could be one of the solutions to the soup. Have now found 1 explanation for Upgrading and a clean installation that both crash.

3 /tmp files have run out of space.

See attached Journal.log, plus df-H

NOTE Have run Boot Repair it says ok.
Forget it, same stop as before, broken Grub
Now I want this to be fixed quickly, I'm sitting with a broken PC, many others are waiting too
