Public bug reported:
I am experiencing an issue where my laptop's fans start spinning after
entering sleep mode (s2idle) and do not stop. I have to wake the system
up and attempt sleep again. Sometimes, the fans spin up again after
retrying sleep but eventually stop, while other times I have to shut
down the laptop completely.
** Issue Details **:
-Ubuntu is installed alongside Windows 11 in a dual-boot configuration.
-Hardware: Dell Inc. Precision 5690
-Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
-Kernel Version: 6.11.0-21-generic
$ fwupdmgr --version
compile org.freedesktop.fwupd 1.9.28
compile com.hughsie.libxmlb 0.3.18
compile com.hughsie.libjcat 0.2.0
runtime org.freedesktop.fwupd-efi 1.4
compile org.freedesktop.gusb 0.4.8
runtime com.hughsie.libxmlb 0.3.x
runtime com.hughsie.libjcat 0.2.0
runtime org.freedesktop.gusb 0.4.8
runtime org.freedesktop.fwupd 1.9.28
-Active Sleep Mode:
$ cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
[s2idle]
** Symptoms **:
-After entering sleep mode (systemctl suspend or closing the lid), the fans start running at high speed.
-To stop the fans, I have to wake up the laptop and retry sleep mode.
-In some cases, retrying sleep mode makes the fans stop, but other times they spin up again.
-Occasionally, the only way to stop them is by shutting down the laptop completely.
-Checking journalctl -b -1 -r | grep -i wake, I noticed wake events related to bluetoothd and NetworkManager.
-The issue persists even when disabling Wake-on-LAN.
-This problem has already occurred multiple times on kernel 6.8.
This issue occurs intermittently, and I am unsure if it is related to
firmware updates. Any guidance on debugging or resolving this would be
appreciated.
