Title:
"The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
After about the fourth boot of a freshly installed 24.04, the machine, a Lenovo Thinkpad Helix 2, didn't boot yet again, but came back with this message:
"Error: The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"
"Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup".

I never had this before, on either of my 3 Helix 2 thinkpads, over the last 5+ years, starting with 18.04. This isn't the first time with 24.04, on this machine.
Since it also refuses to show grub, doesn't reboot; neither the installation media nor the installed system (#2085732, #2078572, #1898022 and others), I guess that the core problem doesn't lie with grub or systemd, but with the handling of UEFI, at least with this type of machine. The 'BIOS' is updated to the most recent version (2.16).
