Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 22.10 (kinetic) reached end-of-life on July 20, 2023.

The Ubiquity installer is now unmaintained as it has been replaced by
either the 'Ubuntu Desktop Installer' or 'Calamares' starting with the
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release. So this bug report is being closed as
'Invalid' as the reported issue will not be fixed or investigated.

New bug reports relating to Ubuntu's installer should be reported
against the 'ubuntu-desktop-provision' project or the 'calamares'
package.

Title:
installer crashed while trying to install on a manually unlocked Luks
  vg partition

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I was trying to install ubuntu 20.10 on a laptop with an existing disk
encryption with several logical volumes containing data, it didn't
work and crashed. Also I noticed that in one of the attempts the swap
partition wasn't just initialised, but also activated, this may have
been the case while I was attempting to go through one of the
  partitioning attempts.

I guess this wasn't a use case that was fully tested, however I found
a question (without answer) about this very issue.

I unlocked the luks fs via the ctrl-alt-f2 terminal using `cryptsetup
luksOpen somename`, this went as expected and the logical volumes
became visible in the partioner after I reloaded (back/continue) the
  partitioning page.

I'm probably now going to backup the entire disk and reformat the
entire nvme, so I won't be able to test this again anytime soon.
