Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 23.04 (lunar) reached end-of-life on January 25, 2024.

The Ubiquity installer is now unmaintained as it has been replaced by
either the 'Ubuntu Desktop Installer' or 'Calamares' starting with the
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release. So this bug report is being closed as
'Invalid' as the reported issue will not be fixed or investigated.

New bug reports relating to Ubuntu's installer should be reported
against the 'ubuntu-desktop-provision' project or the 'calamares'
package.

** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  Cannot install from same device

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Trying this with both Xubuntu and Kubuntu 2023.04

The LiveDVD has been extracted to /dev/sdb5 and a partition exists
with LVM logical volumes. No partition table changes are made during
install; the installer reports, after configuring partitions and
filesystems, that 3 LVM logical volumes will be formatted EXT4.

After the partitioning screen, the installer on both Xubuntu and
Kubuntu immediately complain they can't unmount /cdrom and hang at
  "Scanning filesystems…"

It is impossible to install the operating system. For some unknown
reason it refuses to continue. This makes it impossible to install
  without a separate media.
