** Summary changed:

- Intel-microcode 3.20250211.0ubuntu0.20.04.1 causes panic and bootloop
+ Intel-microcode 3.20250211.0ubuntu0.20.04.1 causes panic and bootloop on Dell PowerEdge R740xd

** Description changed:

After updating intel-microcode from 3.20241112.0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to
3.20250211.0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in my Ubuntu Server 20.04.6 LTS the server
  is stuck in a bootloop.

Sometimes I can see an error on console while booting, or sometimes it reboots without completing bootup sequence, and is no more usable.
For what I have seen on console, it appears to be a kernel panic error coming from "tg3" (broadcom Tigon3 Ethernet driver for NICs).

Now I succeeded in reverting to version 3.20241112.0ubuntu0.20.04.1 thanks to recovery mode, and server is booting and stable again.
I put the package on hold to prevent upgrading.

Server is a Dell PowerEdge R740XD
+
  Processor: 1x Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6238R CPU @ 2.20GHz
- NIC is the integrated, quad-port Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5720) with firmware 23.11.4
+ CPU family: 6
+ Model: 85
+ Model name: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6238R CPU @ 2.20GHz
