Title:
ubiquity does not allow to create several LVs (/, /home, swap) under
one LVM VG
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
Won't Fix
Bug description:
Installing Ubuntu Gnome here, I realized that the encrypted LVM setup
that the installer is offering is very limited, if not deficient.
- Choosing the automated LVM setup with encryption, user has no
chance to define sizes of swap or create a separate /home (Which maybe
ok for newbies but leave all customization wishes behind)
- Choosing a manual partitioning, one can create a LVM Volume Group but has no chance to create multiple LV inside that VG. Only possibility to create one volume that spans over the entire VG. What if I want a volume for swap in that VG? And what if I want a separate /home volume? That entire setup has to be create after installation, which creates a lot of manual work and is not trivial.
- Choosing to install Ubuntu using an existing, encrypted LVM (over-writing and existing installation) is also not straightforward: First, the installer offers no way to unlock an existing LVM. Second, if I use the tools of the LiveCD to unlock my existing LVM, the installer does not see it as an encrypted LVM and the system will not boot after installation. One has to chroot into the installation, install the tools needed for LVM, and so on.
Shouldn't creation of several, user-defined LV in an LVM be supported?
And shouldn't the installer support installation in an existing LVM?
True, nothing of this is for newbies, but even a bit more advanced
users are left behind.
