Hi Erich - Thanks for your in-depth reply. I would never have figured this
out, and it still seems to be a bit of a mystery. I will do a fresh install
of 24.02 on my desktop. I also tried using the installer on my laptop but
received the same error.  The fresh install produced no errors, all went
well.

  It appears that a third party piece of software is preventing the
  upgrade from working. I went through the log files and could not
  identify anything obvious (I don't know what I'm looking for in the
  files). I've tried the upgrade a couple of times with the same result.
  Is there some way to to identify the cause of the problem more
