The Ubiquity installer is now unmaintained as it has been replaced by
the 'Ubuntu Desktop Installer' starting with the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
release.

I'm moving this to the 'ubuntu-desktop-provision' project for the
relevant developers to consider.

** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-desktop-provision

Title:
Add VMware-specific time synchronization handling during installation

Status in ubuntu-desktop-provision:
  New

Bug description:
  ## Summary
Add VMware-specific time synchronization handling during installation

  ## Problem
When installing Ubuntu in VMware VMs, users experience time zone issues due to:
  - Conflicting time sync mechanisms (VMware Tools vs systemd-timesyncd)
  - Incorrect RTC handling assumptions
  - No automatic detection of virtualization during setup

  ## Solution
  - Detect VMware environment during installation
  - Configure appropriate time sync method based on environment
  - Add user-friendly option in installer for VMware time handling

  ## Testing
  - Tested on VMware Workstation 16/17
  - Tested on VMware ESXi 7.0/8.0
  - Verified with both BIOS and UEFI systems
  - Tested with and without VMware Tools installed
