I suspect this might be LP: #2110300.

Can you please try

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nteodosio/update-manager
  sudo apt install --verbose update-manager

and report back whether the high load is still verified? The last
command should report that version 24.04.81 is being installed. If not,
you can just try again later.

  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu-desktop 24.04 with kernel 6.8.0-60-generic @ 6/6/2025

  When update-manager pops up with new updates and installs them

  it makes gnome-shell going to a higher CPU/load (around 40%)

  and makes the system fans blow higher then does not stop anymore

  till i halt the computer and reboot.

  I tested updates via apt, where i cant reproduce the same high loads
  there
