The system has both Xubuntu and Ubuntu MATE metapackages installed. The
Ubuntu MATE upgrade configuration specifies

PostUpgradeRemove=ibus,lightdm-gtk-greeter,lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings

which conflicts with Xubuntu's metapackages which still use lightdm-gtk-
greeter{,-settings}
