Public bug reported:
Hello Ubuntu,
On the new Ubuntu 25.10, the "date" command fails to print locale names:
LC_TIME=tr_TR.UTF-8 date +%B
prints:
November
instead of:
Kasım,
This command was OK on Ubuntu 24 (used inside a script to Grep month
names from a CSV file written in Türkish.
This command fails with the Rust version of coreuils.
Note however that the "locale" config is correct as the following command works as expected:
locale -k LC_TIME
shows the good locale name
...
mon="Ocak;Şubat;Mart;Nisan;Mayıs;Haziran;Temmuz;Ağustos;Eylül;Ekim;Kasım;Aralık"
...
Do I need to switch back to the old C based coreutils package?
Thanks to give a solution...
There is no emergency however as I have added the English month names in
my CSV file... so my command works again... Just tried to inform you
about this behavior that seems to not be documented on Internet, I
googled for a valid answer, found nothing.
Thanks to give a solution. Also, some apps like Shotcut, Gimp crashes on
Wayland (but works on X11 reinstalled automatically by the Budgie
Desktop). The latest Shotcut as an Appimage seems to work on Wayland,
but I want a real App installed normally withou Snap or Flatpak or
Appimage.
