Public bug reported:

I was running the nvidia-575-open driver. Whatever driver I was upgraded to did not work.
I tried to manually update to the nvidia-580-open driver, but there was a dependency failure.
I tried to manually update to the nvidia-580 driver, It seemed to work, but I got a black screen after the required reboot.
I switched from my graphics card HDMI port to my motherboard's HDMI port and reboot worked using my processor's integrated GPU.
>From this point onward, I have been using the integrated GPU.
I also tried to update from the seemingly successful nvidia-580 driver back to the nvidia-580-open driver and the failure pop-up window complained about not replacing nvidia-frirmare-580.

I am not given a choice to revert back to the nvidia-575-open drive. The
only other choice was to try the nvidia-570 drivers. They didn't work
either, but that was not surprising because at least a 575 level driver
is needed to support the graphics card.

I also tried to download and install a newer nvidia-580-open driver from
Nvidia's web site. It said that the driver built correctly, but my EFCI
Secure BIOS prevented it from being loaded.

So at this point I am unable to proceed with my Isaac ROS robotics
project because it requires the Nvidia GPU.

My most recent attempt of installing the nvidia-580-open driver resulted in the message...
pk-client-error-quark: Error while installing package: installed nvidia-dkms-580-open package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 6(313).
