You can run
sudo apt install coreutils-from-busybox coreutils-from-uutils- --allow-
remove-essential
I did it to restore gnu coreutils here and it worked. It removed
`build-essential` meta package because it seems that coreutils-from-
uutils is a hard coded requirement there. IMO there should be a virtual
package listed as a dependency and being satisfied by any coreutils
flavor available
