this is intentional; otherwise you may be able to build packages in an
unsupported build environment, and we do not want the build tools to be
able to make that change

** Changed in: build-essential (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Won't Fix

** Changed in: coreutils-from (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Won't Fix

Title:
  Make coreutils-from-gnu a possible dependency for build-essential

Status in build-essential package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix
Status in coreutils-from package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  It's very handy to install build-essential meta package on dev
  systems, but it seems to have a hard dependency on coreutils-from-
  uutils. When I replaced it by coreutils-from-gnu by running:

  sudo apt install coreutils-from-gnu coreutils-from-uutils- --allow-
  remove-essential

  It ended up removing build-essential meta package from my system.

  It would be useful to have a virtual package for coreutils that accept
  any of the available flavors and make users' lives easier to replace
  one by another.
