The package search shows that both questing and resolute have version
0.0.0~ubuntu24, which suggests this isn't fixed in resolute either. I
assume I'm missing something; has the package been replaced with a
different one I need to migrate to?

I encountered this problem on a computer I just installed today from
installation media I downloaded today, and reproduced on another
computer that has been running for ages and upgraded from a prior
version, so this seems likely to affect everyone with questing and could
continue to affect everyone on resolute.

Bug description:
  The dirname command provided by uutils (in coreutils-from-uutils) has
  a bug in its behavior. Input "/home/user/." returns "/home" instead of
  "/home/user". This breaks applications, such as homeshick, which
  relies on this behavior to function correctly.

  By default, Ubuntu appears to install three different forms of
  coreutils: coreutils-from-uutils (which has the bug and is in PATH by
  default), gnu-coreutils (which does not have the bug, but all the
  executables are renamed), and rust-coreutils (which also has the bug).

  This was already fixed upstream in
  https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/pull/8911 so the fix needs to be
  packaged and deployed by Ubuntu.
