Unless your mechanic is ripping you off, he'd not suggest switching
your four 6-months-old tires because one of them is beyond repair, and
Apple will not stop supporting your 6-months-old machine because you
plugged a new one on the network today.

Analogies aside, it's a very real demand to run stuff across
environments, such as a database in the LTS and the frontend on a
newer release due to dependencies. Our own datacenter has cross-series
deployments, IIRC.
