We're using the markdown parser that was part of the Gui when we started
working on it. It's in assets/javascript/gallery-markdown.js

In a quick search I don't see any notes about supporting comments. If you
file a bug we can look if we need to see if we can support that syntax
upstream on that gallery module and such.
